Asalaamu alaikum wr wb dear Readers!
Today Im going to be sharing my recommendations for Ethical Muslim-owned companies that design, manufacture and sell French-style JIlbabs (Jelbabs). Recently I’ve gotten some questions on my Social Media regarding some of the French-Style Jilbabs I’ve worn in some of my Reels and so, I felt it was time to make an updated recommendation list of companies that are my go-tos for French-style Jilbabs.
[No, none of these recommendations are sponsored, these are all my own opinion}
But first; Why do I call this style of Jilbab the French-Style Jilbab?
If your out of the loop; the French-style Jilbab (or Jelbab) is the style of overgarment which originated in Algeria circa-1990’s with its distinctive face opening where the seams are at the sides of the head, not under the chin; giving this garment the unique drape around the face. This design then made its way to France through the movement of Algerians to France and was then popularized first amongst immigrants from the Maghreb (North Africa) to then the wider French Muslim community – to then around Europe and then worldwide. Not to toot my own horn but I was probably the first American Muslim Blogger in the early 20-teens who popularized this form of overgarment.

So, now its 2026 and here are some companies I recommend for this style of Jilbab. I have purchased from all of these companies at some point and was/am satisfied with their designs/quality/ease of order/shipping/longevity/price point.
Important; I am very much pro-ethical consumption and do not purchase from or review fast-fashion companies, while I may occasionally purchase wether knowingly or unknowingly from a fast-fashion company I strive to keep my consumption of Fast-Fashion to a minimum because Fast-Fashion is harmful for our planet, our bodies and our economies.
Important Numรฉro deux; By using the term ‘Ethical Muslim Brands”; I am talking about companies which are transparent with their supply chain, they are not massive companies, they do not come out with entire new lines every few weeks, they adhere to Islamic principles (justice, mercy, etc), safe working conditions, fair wages, etc.
So, without further adieu; my recommendations; Yes, all of these companies ship worldwide!
- Akhawat Boutique – The Classic Option
This company is based out of France, I call them the Classic Option as they carry the El Bassira brand which is one of the OG Jilbab (Jelbab) companies; all of their products are made in Morocco.
They have the entire range of Jilbab designs which ElBassira produces; a plethora of colors, sizes, fabrics and designs. El Bassira JIlbabs are sized by length. They offer seasonal colors & fabrics along with a core collection.
They ship quickly via French Post. If they run out of a seasonal color, fabric or design then they will not be restocked until that season comes back around-so if you like it, grab it!
2. Tasnim Collections – The Made to Order Option
This company is based out of Morocco and manufacturers all their designs to order; you will have the largest range of sizing, fabric, color and design options here with second largest selection from Akhawat Boutique.
Shipping is excellent but as they make each garment to order they have a longer turn around time, so factor that in. All the fabrics, colors and designs are available year around.
3. Sunnah Style – The North American Option
This company is based out of Canada but is by far the easiest option if you are in the USA as far as turn around time and cost go. Their garments are made in Jordan.
Smaller core collection; their French-style JIlbabs are labeled as “Jilbabs tops”, they do not come with a coordinating skirt or sarouel. So fact that in, skirts are purchased seperately.
4. MyJilbabiStore – The Cotton Option
This company is based out of the UK, they offer a small core collection made out of Cotton! Their garments are made in Pakistan. Their designs are available as a set; so think the half Jilbab & coordinating skirt. 2-sizes.
Shipping is very quick although pricy if you are in the US, its wonderful wearing a cotton garment on a hot summers day!
5. Umm Hafsa Collection – The Innovative Option
This company is based out of Egypt although founded by, I believe French Muslims who reside in Egypt. They have the most innovative designs Ive found such as the half-jilbab tops with slips at the chest to provide extra coverage, they also offer a swim Jilbab (Jelbab) as well. Their designs are purchased as a set.
Shipping is very quick, can be pricy but is an excellent deal if you reach their free shipping limit; then International shipping is…free.
Traditionally French Jilbabs (Jelbabs) came as either a 1-piece or 2-piece design; Ive worn both and personally I do prefer the 2-piece design as I find them most comfortable and versatile. The 2 piece designs would then usually be made as either the papillion (butterfly cut) or sleeved cut with either a cordinating skirt or sarouel. So do keep that in mind. If you live somewhere with fairly harsh winters I do feel like the sleeved style of 2-piece is more practical with a winter coat but again, you choose what works best for you.
BarakhAllahFeeki if you’ve made it this far! Let me know what you think and if you have any questions!
